Summer School 2025
This summer, Gateacre School hosted a fantastic summer school programme for our students. Over the course of a week, students took part in a wide variety of activities designed to be both educational and fun.
Monday
Monday started with a focus on team-building. Students were challenged to work together on a code-breaking and scavenger hunt activity organised by the English and Science departments.
In other groups, students explored creative storytelling and cultural art in sessions on 'Aboriginal Dreaming' led by the Arts department, while others got active with team sports and icebreaker games with the PE department.
Tuesday
On Tuesday, the Drama department hosted a lively Shakespeare workshop in the theatre, introducing students to the world of classic theatre.
Meanwhile, the PE and English departments continued to get students moving with sports and a code-breaking challenge.
Wednesday
The Science and Maths departments teamed up to deliver a challenging project that put students' problem-solving skills to the test. The Maths department also hosted engaging sessions on financial literacy, helping students understand money management.
Students took on hands-on sessions building bridges and towers, which factored in principles of Engineering and Physics.
Thursday
On Thursday, students competed in the final rounds of the chess tournament, while others continued to engage with the STEM challenge and creative projects with the Arts department, decorating bowls with beautiful Aboriginal art.
Friday
The grand finale on Friday brought all the students together for an afternoon of sports challenges, led by the PE department. It was a perfect way to end the week, celebrating new friendships and all the new skills they had learned.
Our Science department also held a thrilling session where students tested modifications to scale model planes, exploring the principles of aerodynamics and flight.
It was a brilliant week filled with laughter, learning, and new experiences. A huge thank you to all the students who took part and to the staff from across the various departments for making it such a success!
