Reading in Geography

In the Geography department, we aim to show our students that reading around the subject will help them to not only gain a further understanding of the topics they study at Gateacre, but also to improve their general knowledge and understanding of the world around them.

We encourage them to pay particular interest to the news, especially news articles that are tailored to their age for example Newsround and The Day. We have a library of books just outside the Geography classrooms available for the students to take at any time, including information books on different countries and the ‘Horrible Geography’ series.

Throughout our schemes of learning in KS3 and KS4 we have incorporated extra reading related to specific topics. This might be an extract from a book, a news article or a poem. This allows students to read something related to what they are learning which will hopefully encourage them to carry this on outside of the classroom.
